Mika Brunold faces Patrick Zahraj in the opening round of the ATP Challenger 50 Sion on clay at TC Valère. The 21-year-old Swiss right-hander, currently ranked around 423 with a career high of 289, brings local support and recent experience on the surface, while the 27-year-old German Zahraj sits near 413 and has competed steadily in European ITF and Challenger events. Both players enter with comparable recent form from lower-tier tournaments, including Brunold’s straight-sets loss in San Marino and Zahraj’s mixed results in Swiss ITF stops. The clay conditions favor consistent baseline play and endurance, areas where the younger Brunold’s physical profile could provide an edge in longer rallies, though Zahraj’s experience offers realistic upset potential in this tightly matched contest. No major injuries or withdrawals have altered the field ahead of the scheduled start.
