Roman Safiullin enters this Winston-Salem Open first-round hard-court matchup as the clear favorite against Hugo Grenier, reflecting his superior ATP ranking (103 vs. 258) and stronger recent results. Safiullin built positive momentum with a deep 2026 Wimbledon run that included qualifying and upsets of higher-seeded players, following Challenger titles earlier in the year despite prior injury setbacks. Grenier, by contrast, has posted inconsistent form with limited tour-level success and a lower career-high ranking. Their limited head-to-head favors Safiullin from a prior meeting, while hard-court conditions and rest factors should further support the higher-ranked Russian’s edge in a match likely to resolve in straight sets.
