Recent hawkish signals from Bank of Japan officials, including July summary of opinions highlighting upside inflation risks and Governor Ueda's comments flagging September as a potential hike window, have driven the 87% market-implied probability of a 25 basis point rate increase at the September 17-18 meeting. Persistent core inflation near or above the 2% target, solid wage growth, and yen weakness prompting joint interventions have reinforced expectations for policy normalization from the current 1.0% level, with sources indicating possible acceleration in tightening pace. This trader consensus, backed by real capital on Polymarket, reflects data showing balanced risks to growth alongside mounting price pressures ahead of the decision.
