The October 3, 2026, Saeima elections and subsequent coalition negotiations remain the primary drivers of the tightly contested market for Latvia’s next prime minister. Incumbent Andris Kulbergs of the United List heads a caretaker centre-right coalition formed in May after the prior government collapsed over drone incidents and security disputes, with his party polling near the top but short of a majority. Andris Šuvajevs of the Progressives, Arvils Ašeradens of New Unity, and Viktors Valainis of the Union of Greens and Farmers trail closely in implied probabilities, reflecting fragmented voter support across roughly a dozen lists and the likelihood of multi-party bargaining. Recent polling shifts, border security concerns tied to hybrid threats, and campaign emphasis on defence spending have kept several contenders viable without clear separation. Late developments in turnout, smaller-party alliances, or post-election talks could quickly alter the trader consensus.
