Sydney Swans entered the Round 23 clash as clear favorites at an implied 76% probability, driven by their 18-5 record and second-place ladder standing compared to Essendon’s 2-21 position at the foot of the table. The Swans carried strong recent form into the MCG matchup, including multiple wins by large margins and elite midfield output from players such as Errol Gulden, while Essendon averaged just 57.6 points across their prior five games amid a prolonged slump. Essendon’s injury list, featuring long-term absences including Darcy Parish’s calf strain and several season-ending issues, further limited their depth and ruck options. Sydney’s superior scoring average, home-ground familiarity at the venue, and head-to-head edge against a rebuilding side aligned with trader consensus on the outcome.
