**Recent polling shows the Texas U.S. Senate race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton locked in a statistical dead heat or narrow Talarico edge statewide, with both candidates at or near 50% in late August and early September surveys.** This closeness stems from Paxton's contentious primary victory over incumbent John Cornyn, which consolidated Republican support but left the general election more competitive than expected in a state long dominated by the GOP. Collin County, a historically Republican suburban stronghold and Paxton's political base, has emerged as a key battleground where shifting independent and moderate voters, along with Talarico's strong fundraising and outreach on affordability and corruption issues, have narrowed traditional margins. Talarico's large campaign events in the area and Democratic gains among suburban and Latino voters in recent cycles have supported his implied edge in county-level outcomes. Minor candidates and "other" options remain long shots absent major late shifts. The November 3 general election timeline leaves room for further movement from turnout, advertising, or national factors.
