US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s announcement doubling long-end bond buybacks to at least $4 billion per operation has weighed on the dollar by amplifying fiscal concerns over elevated debt levels, pushing the DXY to near three-month lows around 98.8 as of August 24. Softer July inflation and employment data have reduced market-implied odds of a September Federal Reserve rate hike to roughly 30-40 percent via CME FedWatch Tool pricing, with the target range holding at 3.50-3.75 percent. Geopolitical tensions supporting oil prices and persistent core inflation pressures provide limited counter-support, while DXY recorded approximately 1 percent weekly losses. Key near-term catalysts include the July PCE release on August 26, new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech on August 28, and preliminary nonfarm payrolls benchmark revisions, which could shift trader positioning.
