This market will resolve to "Yes" if Samuel Alito announces that he will retire from his position as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States by the specified date at 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The announced timing of his retirement may be immediate, at the end of the current Supreme Court term, or at any point in the future. Any qualifying announcement from Alito will count for a "Yes" resolution, regardless of whether the announced retirement goes into effect. The resolution source for this market will be official announcements from Alito or one of his official representatives.**Justice Samuel Alito, age 76, has directly stated he intends to serve at least another full term on the Supreme Court.** In an August 7, 2026, Wall Street Journal interview, Alito said, “Obviously I’m here for another term,” following an erroneous late-June NPR report that briefly fueled retirement speculation before its retraction by the network and denial from the Court. Traders currently assign low probabilities to an announcement by September 30 or December 31, 2026 (around 2% and 6% respectively on Polymarket), with the June 30, 2027, date at roughly 35%. This reflects Alito’s public commitment, the start of the Court’s October 2026 term, and typical patterns where justices time departures around term ends or favorable Senate conditions—Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority that would ease any confirmation process. No health issues, official statements, or procedural deadlines have emerged since the August clarification to alter that positioning, though the November 2026 midterm elections and the conclusion of the 2026-2027 term remain key watchpoints for potential shifts.
