This market will resolve to "Yes" if Tesla publicly launches a self-driving taxi service in California by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". Any taxi service available to the general public which operates without a human driver actively controlling the vehicle will count, regardless of membership or other financial restrictions. Services which are limited to Tesla employees or a limited test group without general access will not qualify. This market's resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.Tesla's inability to secure California DMV and CPUC permits for unsupervised robotaxi operations remains the dominant factor behind the 83.5% market-implied odds favoring "No." The company holds only a basic Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit with safety driver requirements through its Tesla Robotaxi LLC subsidiary and operates Bay Area rides exclusively under a charter-party carrier permit that mandates human oversight, classifying them as supervised taxis rather than true robotaxis. No applications have been filed for the multi-stage driverless approvals needed, and Tesla has logged zero autonomous test miles on California roads in recent years. Recent expansions in Texas and Florida, including Cybercab promotions in Austin, highlight where regulatory pathways are clearer, while California's stricter data thresholds and timelines make a December 31 resolution unlikely absent rapid, unexpected approvals.
