Republicans currently hold a 53-47 Senate majority heading into the 2026 midterms, defending more seats overall while Democrats must net at least four flips for control. Nate Silver’s newly launched Silver Bulletin FLIPR forecast rates the chamber a tossup, reflecting a structurally favorable GOP map—limited Democratic opportunities beyond states like Michigan and Georgia—offset by a national generic ballot environment showing Democratic leads. Recent model updates, including shifts in ratings for races such as Texas, and ongoing polling averages will influence when the forecast first assigns Republicans greater than 50 percent odds of retaining the majority. Traders are pricing the likelihood of that threshold crossing by late September based on these polling trends and fundamentals.
