Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent defection from the NNPP to the APC, followed by his clearance and adoption as the party’s consensus 2027 governorship candidate, underpins trader consensus favoring his re-election bid at 59.5%. Prominent APC figures including Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Barau Jibrin have publicly endorsed the incumbent, consolidating party structures ahead of primaries and general voting. On the opposition side, former deputy governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, now the NDC nominee with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s son as running mate, draws on the Kwankwasiyya movement’s grassroots network at 37%, sustaining competitiveness despite the incumbent’s advantages. The contest remains fluid due to ongoing Kano APC factional tensions and potential shifts in alliances before the March 2027 polls.
