Incumbent Governor Peter Mbah Ndubuisi holds a strong position in the Enugu gubernatorial race as the APC nominee following his decisive primary victory in May 2026, where he secured overwhelming delegate support after defecting from the PDP in late 2025. His advantages include visible infrastructure progress since taking office in 2023, growing elite backing, and APC momentum confirmed in recent by-elections. Opposition figures such as James Ene Nwannaji and Dona Nwogbo register limited trader interest due to weaker organizational reach and the structural edge of incumbency in Nigerian state elections. Scheduled for 2027, the contest remains subject to standard variables like voter turnout and any late shifts in party alignments.
