Recent marine heatwave conditions and persistently elevated sea surface temperatures along the Southern California Bight have suppressed the typical marine layer, supporting higher overnight lows near 70°F for Los Angeles on September 6. National Weather Service and ensemble forecasts show spread in the precise minimum due to variable cloud cover, light winds, and a 20-60% chance of showers or thunderstorms that could alter radiational cooling rates. Historical September averages near 64°F contrast with 2026 observations of 64-67°F lows recently, yet current guidance clusters higher amid El Niño-enhanced humidity. This genuine forecast uncertainty across models explains the closely matched market probabilities spanning 59-75°F bins.
