South Korea’s 2026 annual inflation market shows closely matched probabilities across the 2.4–2.9% range and the 3.0%+ bucket, reflecting trader uncertainty around the balance between recent disinflation and emerging demand pressures. July CPI eased to 2.8% year-over-year from 3.2% in June, below expectations, with moderation in transport and food components, yet the reading remains above the Bank of Korea’s 2% target and core inflation held near 2.5–2.6%. Upward revisions to 2026 GDP growth forecasts—to 3% or higher—alongside elevated oil prices and lagged effects from earlier won weakness have sustained concerns about demand-side and imported inflation. The BOK’s maintained 2.7% projection for the year, combined with ongoing monetary tightening and the next CPI releases, keeps the 2.7–2.9% outcome narrowly favored while leaving room for upside surprises if growth broadens beyond semiconductors.
