Recent July CPI data showing a 3.4% year-over-year increase, with a modest 0.1% monthly rise and 0.2% gain in core ex-food-and-energy prices, anchors trader expectations for the August reading near that level. Declining energy prices, including gasoline, have eased headline pressures following earlier Middle East-related spikes, while shelter costs continue to contribute steadily to the core measure. Softening labor market signals and contained goods inflation outside tariffs support the clustering of implied probabilities around 3.3–3.5%. The August CPI release on September 11 will resolve the market, with any further moderation in energy or services prices likely reinforcing the current consensus distribution.
