Recent August CPI data showed China's annual inflation rebounding to 0.8% from July's 0.5%, driven by firmer non-food prices in transport, energy, and communication equipment that offset ongoing food deflation, particularly in pork. This mixed print, combined with persistent weak household demand, excess manufacturing capacity, and a soft property sector, has kept trader probabilities closely split between the 0.7-0.8% and 0.9-1.0% brackets for September. Core inflation edged higher to 1.0%, while producer prices also firmed, signaling modest cost pressures amid global commodity influences. The next National Bureau of Statistics release, expected in mid-October, will resolve the market, with outcomes sensitive to any shifts in fuel costs, seasonal travel demand, or policy support for consumption before then.
