Taiwanese local elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who becomes the next Mayor of Tainan as a result of this election. Temporary, interim, or placeholder Mayors appointed before the election will not be considered. If the result of this election isn't known, or no candidate has been elected, by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of the elections as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Taiwanese government, specifically the Central Election Commission (https://db.cec.gov.tw/).Chen Ting-fei holds a commanding lead in the 2026 Tainan mayoral race as the Democratic Progressive Party nominee after securing the January primary against Lin Chun-hsien. Tainan’s consistent support for DPP candidates in local contests, combined with Chen’s legislative record and prior electoral successes against Kuomintang opponents, underpins trader consensus. The KMT’s Hsieh Lung-chieh, formally nominated in late 2025, trails significantly despite a March 2026 poll showing modest narrowing tied to potential defections among 2024 Lai voters. With the November 28 vote still months away, the implied probability reflects structural party advantages and limited visible momentum shifts for challengers. Scenarios that could alter the outcome include stronger KMT-TPP coordination, shifts in turnout among southern voters, or late national political developments influencing local preferences.
