The vacancy in the White House press secretary role following Karoline Leavitt’s departure on August 27, 2026, has shifted responsibility for briefings to rotating senior administration officials rather than dedicated communications staff. Trader consensus places Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the front with 57.5% implied probability, reflecting his prior White House briefing appearances and high-profile foreign policy role amid ongoing developments such as Iran-related matters. Multiple other figures, including Vice President JD Vance, who briefed on September 3, and various deputies or advisers, sit near 50% or lower, underscoring the lack of a confirmed permanent replacement and the administration’s fluid approach. This setup keeps probabilities tightly clustered, with separation likely hinging on upcoming announcements, scheduled briefings, or shifts in who President Trump directs to the podium in the near term.

Resolution is based on who actually delivers the briefing from the podium, not on who is listed or announced in advance. If the individual scheduled or announced to give a briefing does not ultimately lead it, this market will resolve to the individual who does. An individual who appears at a qualifying briefing only as a guest, or who speaks only after being introduced by the individual leading the briefing, will not qualify.
For the purposes of this market, a White House press briefing is an event listed on the public White House schedule as a press briefing. Any such briefing will qualify, even if the individual leading it has not been formally announced as the Press Secretary or as an acting or interim Press Secretary. "New Media" briefings and special briefings including additional guests will qualify, so long as the individual leads the briefing.
Impromptu press gaggles, and remarks that are not listed on the public schedule as a press briefing, will not qualify.
If two or more individuals jointly lead the next qualifying briefing, this market will resolve to the individual who speaks first.
If no qualifying White House press briefing occurs by September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other".
This market will resolve based on footage of the briefing, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting.
