UPND secured a commanding position in Zambia’s National Assembly election through its strong performance on August 13, 2026, capturing a clear majority of the 226 constituency seats plus proportional representation allocations under the mixed electoral system. Incumbency advantages, including economic stabilization measures, debt restructuring, and the expansion of free education, helped consolidate support across the UPND Alliance amid a field of 29 parties. The party fielded candidates nationwide while the main challenger, NRPUP, contested far fewer seats. Trader consensus at 99.2% reflects these declared results and the absence of successful legal challenges to date. Remaining uncertainty stems from potential court petitions over alleged irregularities or localized violence reported on election night, though historical precedent and institutional processes make wholesale reversal unlikely.
