Baba Malam Wali has consolidated strong trader consensus as the leading outcome in the Yobe gubernatorial race due to his emergence as the All Progressives Congress nominee following the May 2026 party primary, where he secured over 236,000 votes. Governor Mai Mala Buni’s explicit endorsement as preferred successor, combined with backing from Senator Ibrahim Geidam and a series of stakeholder summits, has reinforced perceptions of party unity and continuity ahead of the 2027 vote. Recent visits to traditional rulers for endorsements and pledges to sustain Buni-era policies further solidified his position. Lingering legal challenges from aspirants over primary procedures remain in court with hearings scheduled for September 2026, while several rivals have withdrawn, limiting visible competition from other listed candidates or opposition figures.
