Lula maintains a commanding position in Maranhão for first place in the October 2026 presidential first round, reflecting the state's longstanding support for the Workers' Party incumbent and his social policy priorities. Recent state-level surveys, including July polling showing Lula at 60% against main challenger Flavio Bolsonaro at 22%, underscore this regional strength amid Lula's confirmed re-election bid and alliances in the Northeast. Trader consensus aligns with these patterns, where national first-round leads for Lula translate into even wider margins in traditional strongholds like Maranhão. Factors such as economic programs targeting low-income voters and limited opposition infrastructure in the state reinforce the frontrunner status. Potential shifts could arise from late-campaign economic pressures or unexpected turnout changes, though current evidence points to structural advantages sustaining the lead.
