South African municipal elections on 4 November 2026 will determine eThekwini council control through proportional representation, where no single party typically secures an outright majority and coalitions decide the mayoral outcome. Cyril Xaba currently holds the post as ANC nominee amid recent party announcements of multiple internal contenders, while the DA's Haniff Hoosen, ActionSA's Zwakele Mncwango, EFF's Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi, and figures linked to MK Party or other groupings position themselves as potential kingmakers. MK Party inroads have fragmented the ANC base in KwaZulu-Natal, service delivery pressures shape voter priorities, and coalition negotiations remain fluid, sustaining close implied probabilities across leading candidates in trader assessments. Late candidate finalization or alliance shifts could still alter positioning before polling.
