The upcoming November 4, 2026 local government elections in Nelson Mandela Bay have produced a tightly contested mayoral market, with Democratic Alliance candidate Retief Odendaal holding the highest implied probability at 33 percent and current ANC mayor Babalwa Lobishe at 27.5 percent. The metro’s history of narrow 2021 vote shares between the ANC and DA, repeated coalition shifts through no-confidence votes, and ongoing internal ANC nomination debates involving figures such as Andile Lungisa keep probabilities compressed. Recent campaign activity centers on service delivery failures, infrastructure repair, and governance stability, while parties have largely set aside immediate no-confidence efforts to focus on securing council majorities or viable post-election alliances. Fragmented support for additional names reflects uncertainty over final candidate slates and coalition math ahead of polling day.
