The upcoming September 2026 French Senate election, which renews 178 of 348 seats through indirect voting by local elected officials, leaves Union Centriste positioned near its current 59 seats amid stable local dynamics. Trader consensus clusters tightly around 56-64 because recent municipal outcomes and alliance patterns show limited net shifts, with gains in centrist-leaning departments offset by competition from Republicans and other groups. Primary drivers include the indirect electoral system’s emphasis on territorial strongholds, ongoing coalition negotiations at the local level, and absence of major national political realignments in the past month that would alter seat projections. Developments capable of widening the range include stronger-than-expected performance by Macron-aligned lists in key regions or shifts in Republican-centrist pacts ahead of the vote.
