Elevated preliminary counts through mid-August 2026, already reaching 1,350 confirmed U.S. tornadoes per Storm Prediction Center data, position the 1,250+ outcome as the market leader. Multiple Midwest outbreaks, including Illinois exceeding 200 tornadoes—more than triple its long-term average—have driven the surge well ahead of the 1991–2020 climatological pace of roughly 1,200–1,300 annually. With four months remaining and fall activity possible under neutral ENSO conditions, additional reports are likely before final NOAA verification. Trader consensus reflects this observed trajectory and limited downside risk from revised surveys.
